ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION

Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational, Christian organization that exists to address the needs of the underprivileged people of Roatan, Honduras.

  • We provide a loving, safe shelter for at-risk children.
  • We provide a quality bilingual Christian education at our Beacon School for children both in our Home and in the wider community, to prepare them for a secure future.
  • We provide opportunities for short-term mission teams. These are life-changing ministry opportunities for small groups to work on our campus and in the local communities.

Our vision is to expand our current ministries through accommodating additional children, expanding enrollment in our Beacon School and hosting additional mission experiences. Our staff and directors are committed to the highest ethical standards and strive to conduct a ministry which exemplifies clear Christian values.

Our structure includes a 501(c)3 corporation Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries, Inc, in the United States and a Non-Governmental Organization by the same name in Honduras. Our children’s home is named the Greenfield Children’s Home and is certified by DINAF, the governmental unit in Honduras which is responsible for family and child welfare. Our school, located adjacent to the children’s home, is certified by the Honduran agency for education. Unfortunatly Honduras does not have the ability to assist us with any but regulatory oversight. The only paid staff that we have are the Hondurans which make up the staff of our children’s home and school.

OUR MISSION AND VALUES

Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries is non-profit, non-denominational, Christian organization that exists to address the needs of the underprivileged people of Roatan by providing a loving, safe shelter for at-risk children; a quality bilingual Christian education to prepare children for a secure future; and to facilitate short-term, life-changing ministry opportunities for small groups. Our vision is to expand our current ministries through accommodating additional children, expanding enrollment in our Beacon Academy and hosting additional teams. Our staff and directors are committed to the highest ethical standards and strive to conduct a ministry which exemplifies clear Christian values.

Pure, unspoiled religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans and widows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.    James 1:27

MEET OUR TRUSTEES

As the Trustees of Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries, we desire to establish complete transparency with our supporters. If ever you feel the desire to contact any or all of us, please use the email addresses found at the end of each director’s biography. We each consider it an honor and a privilege to be involved in this ministry. We accept no remuneration for our services, preferring that all money donated to help the children in our care goes to support that endeavor.

MEET OUR DIRECTOR

ORSY AND BANESA CRUZ never expected to have a large family. Banesa always dreamed of having two children, as she came from a large family. Mr. Orsy grew up just down the road from our Greenfield Children’s Home. Twenty-two people shared the three bedroom space. But they answered God’s call and now parent a large and growing family. One visit to our home and you will know the love “their kids” share and you will want to give it right back! These are the kids that live with Orsy and Banesa. Sharon Cruz and Orsy Jr. Cruz are their biologic children.

MEET OUR STAFF

We are so thankful for our dedicated staff. They all share responsibilities, but foremost in their minds is the welfare of the kids. Mutual love is shared – for each other and for Jesus who is their model in life. Cooking, cleaning, encouraging and disciplining the children keeps them busy. Now with our Beacon School expanding our teaching staff is growing also. We are now taking enrollment for our bilingual program from the surrounding community. Blessed to be a blessing.
